Display
Solutions, Inc in Stow, MA announced today that
it has recently completed a 14-channel visual display
system for the New Ship Bridge Docking Simulator,
a major project at the Marine Pilots Institute (MPI)
in Covington, LA. The visual system included the
selection of visual components, their location and
installation. Display Solutions designed and installed
the 14- channel visual system to achieve maximum
dome coverage with minimum cost. The docking simulator
consists of a "typical" ship bridge positioned
in the center of a 28' diameter dome. The visual
system uses Sanyo LCD projectors to produce a 300-degree
HFOV x 90-degree VFOV image on the dome screen surface.
The extended VFOV provides "lookdown"
visual display for ship docking training. The 14-visual
channels are geometry corrected and edge blended
both horizontally and vertically using 3-D Perceptions
video warping processors. The MPI dome simulator
is the first ship bridge simulator to provide "look-down"
capability for docking exercises.
